Yul Edochie is one of the top actors in Nigeria who took the movie industry by storm with his perfect blend of good looks and top-notch acting. He is also the son of veteran actor Pete Edochie who ruled the 80s down to the 90s.

Yul Edochie (born Yul Chibuike Daniel Edochie 7 January 1982) is a Nigerian actor and politican, named after popular Russian actor Yul Brynner. He is from Anambra state Nigeria, the son of Nigerian actor Pete Edochie. He was raised both in Lagos and Enugu. He is the last of 6 children. He got married at the age of 22. He attended the University of Port Harcourt, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts.

He began the journey of his education at Lillian’s Day Nursery School and Robinson Street Primary School, Enugu between 1984 and 1992. His secondary education began from 1992 to 1998 within which he attended Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, Uturu; University Secondary School, Enugu; Ecumenical Community Secondary School, Enugu, and New Haven Boys Secondary School Enugu Respectively. After that, Yul Edochie proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he bagged a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts.

Career

Mr. Yul Edochie joined Nollywood in 2005 in his first film titled “The Exquires” alongside the Late Justus Esiri and Enebeli Elebuwa. He got his break in 2007 after featuring in the movie “Wind of Glory” alongside Genevieve Nnaji and Desmond Elliot.

Beyond acting, Yul Edochie has dabbled into politics over time. On the 14 of July 2017, Yul Edochie declared his intention run for Governor of Anambra State. This declaration was made in anticipation of a Not Too Young To Run Bill passed by the senate of the federal government of Nigeria.

The declaration was however made official on the 22nd of August 2017, when he picked up the nomination form of the political party “Democratic Peoples Congress” and was eventually the flag bearer and gubernatorial candidate of the party to run for governor of Anambra State.

Yul Edochie Academy

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie launched his own film academy, Yul Edochie Academy in 2015. The actor launched his Academy as a subsidiary of Yul Edochie Arts World. Founded in 2015 by the filmmaker, the academy was established in line with the vision of the filmmaker, to build an army of well-grounded, focused and professional actors and actresses, whom he can mentor and steer to greatness.

The academy, as stated by Yul Edochie, is supposed to train the next generation of Nollywood actors and actresses, a duty which he intends to personally see to. Also, the academy gives talented people the opportunity to be introduced to the Nigerian Film Industry.

Previously, there was a misconception that Rita Edochie (another popular actress in Nollywood) was Yul’s mother. However, Rita is Yul’s aunty while Josephine Edochie is his mother.  She worked in the broadcasting industry and it was there she met her husband and legendary Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie.

Though Yul has five other siblings (four brothers and a sister), one of his brothers “Linc Edochie” is also a Nollywood actor, writer and producer.

Yul Edochie happened to break many hearts especially that of the young ladies when he announced that he was engaged and getting married to the love of his life “May Aligwe” who he dated for six years.

This was around the time he gained admission to the University of Port Harcourt and although he had nothing to offer at the time, she agreed to settle down with him. They thus tied the knot in 2004 when Yul was just 22 years old. Today, the couple is blessed with three children- two boys and a girl- and they all live a comfortable life.

Apart from his father, Yul listed people like Nonso Diobi, Ramsey Noah, Jim Iyke, Emeka Ike, Mike Ezuruonye, Charles Inojie, and Ejike Asiegbu, as the people who were his role models in the Nigerian movie industry. Then on the foreign scene, he lists some Hollywood artists like Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, among his icons.
