Toke Makinwa (born 3 November 1984) is a Nigerian radio personality, television host, vlogger, lifestyle entrepreneur and author. She is known for hosting The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM and her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments. She released her book On Becoming in November 2016 after her failed marriage to Maje Ayida.

Toke Makinwa was born on 3 November 1984, in Lagos state. She attended the Federal Government Girls’ College in Oyo State. Toke later attended the University of Lagos, where she earned a BA degree in English and literature.
In 2010, Toke Makinwa made her major media debut on Rhythm 93.7 FM’s The Morning Drive show as a co-host. In 2012, she made a television appearance as host of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) beauty pageant, which was broadcast live across Nigeria. She co-hosted Flytime TV’s 3 Live Chicks, along with Tosyn Bucknor and Oreka Godis.
The show debuted as a web series before expanding to terrestrial television in late 2012. Makinwa did not renew her contract with Flytime TV for the show’s second season and was subsequently replaced by her radio colleague Omalicha. In 2012, Toke Makinwa launched her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments.
Her Vlog popularly known as Toke Moments on YouTube finally gave a face to the already popular Nigerian media star. Her vlog content was often targeted towards the Do’s and Don’t’s of relationships. The drama queen also stamped a huge success with her vlog comic series.
For being an entertainer who has a sound mastery of the Nigerian audience, Toke has also recorded a good number of successes anchoring and presenting shows on several media platforms. In 2010, the fashion icon anchored the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant.
Toke hosted the 2014 Hip Hop Magazine Trending show. In the course of that, she interviewed top Nigerian international personalities such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Femi Kuti. In 2015, she became a co-host of the syndicated Moments Talkshow (Nigeria) on Ebony life Television. She hosts the show alongside other personalities like Michelle Dede and Bolanle Olukanni.
Toke Makinwa is an all-time fan of the Oprah Winfrey Talk Show. She shared her childhood fantasy of having her marriage proposal moments on the African-American billionaires’ show. She still hopes to have her own Talk Show and has also indicated her future interest to launch an acting career in Nollywood.
In January 2014, Hip Hop World Magazine announced Toke Makinwa as the host of its interview and talk series Trending. She also secured a spot on EbonyLife TV as a co-host of its flagship show Moments.
Toke Makinwa has hosted numerous notable events, including the 2013 Future and City People Awards, as well as the 2014 Headies Awards.
Toke Makinwa’s Marriage
Toke Makinwa got married to her longtime partner and health instructor, Maje Ayida. The couple had been together for over 7 years. They had a private wedding on January 15, 2014. Barely 2 years after her wedding, their marriage hit the rocks. Maje allegedly had impregnated a supposedly estranged girlfriend, Anita Solomon. Toke Makinwa separated and filed for divorce in June 2016.
The tragedy was the rave of the moment over social networks in 2015. It was ironical that the vlogger whose success emerged from giving relationship tips was having a rough time in hers. Toke had earlier mentioned that her spouse did not fancy her vlogs.
Makinwa lost both of her parents to a fire accident when she was 8 years old. She released her memoir On Becoming in November 2016. The book talks about her personal struggles and addresses the betrayal of her now ex-husband, Maje Ayida. Makinwa went on a book tour to promote the book. The tour included Nigeria, South Africa, the U.S, the U.K, and parts of East Africa.
In 2017, Makinwa launched a handbag line under her eponymous label, Toke Makinwa Luxury. She also launched a skincare product called Glow by TM in 2018.
In 2013, Makinwa became an ambassador of the United Africa Company of Nigeria, alongside Osas Ighodaro, Dare Art Alade and Dan Foster. She also signed a multi-million naira contract with Nestlé Nigeria to become the new face of Maggi. In 2016, she became the brand ambassador and face of Mecran Cosmetics. She has also been an ambassador for Payporte and Ciroc.
On 15 January 2014, Makinwa married Maje Ayida, whom she had been involved with for eight years. In 2015, she separated from Ayida after discovering that he had impregnated his ex-girlfriend. On 5 October 2017, Makinwa’s marriage to Ayida was dissolved by a Lagos High Court on the grounds that Ayida committed adultery.
Bleaching & Surgeries
Toke Makinwa has undergone surgeries, both for health and enhancement. In 2018, Toke Makinwa revealed she underwent a surgery to have a 7-year fibroid removed after spiritual and religious options had been exhausted. She also underwent a butt enhancement surgery which she has never denied. She graciously flaunts it today.
On bleaching, Toke Makinwa in her book ‘On Becoming’, admitted that she bleached her skin to impress her ex-husband who was attracted to fair-skinned ladies. The idea was to compete with Maje’s Akwa Ibom girlfriend who is fair but she obviously let go of the marriage afterward when Maje’s girlfriend became pregnant.
