Mercy Johnson Okojie Biography
Mercy Johnson Okojie (born 28 August 1984) is a Nigerian actress and entrepreneur from Okene in Kogi State. Born in Lagos to a former naval officer, Mr. Daniel Johnson, and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, she is the fourth child in a family of seven. She started her primary education in Calabar. Her father, being a naval officer, was later transferred to Lagos State where she continued her education at a Nigerian Navy Primary School. She went to a Rivers State Secondary School for her secondary education in addition to the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Mercy Johnson dropped out of school several times owing to financial reasons. On various occasions, she hawked drinking water and other food items and served as a housemaid to help make ends meet.
There were difficulties in paying for her school fees and speaking of school, she started acting because she failed the University entrance examination.
Mercy Johnson’s first movie was ‘The Maid,’ a role she auditioned for shortly after her secondary school. Her excellent performance in the movie launched her into stardom and paved ways for a successful career in Nollywood.
MJ, as she is sometimes referred to, subsequently featured in other movies such as Hustlers, Baby Oku in America, War in the Palace, and later took home an award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2009 African Movie Award ceremony.

Mercy Johnson was once banned from acting for ‘being too expensive’. On the 3rd of November, 2013, the movie marketers of Nollywood threatened to prohibit her from the industry due to her high demands. She and co-Nollywood stars such as Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Richard Mofe Damijo, Emeka Ike, Ramsey Nouah, Nkem Owoh, Stella Damasus and Jim Iyke were prohibited from acting, for reportedly demanding outrageous pay raise per movie.
However, the ban was lifted by marketers/producers on the 9th of March, 2014, following an apology by the actress.

Mercy Johnson is married to Prince Odianosen Okojie, popularly known as Odi. The grand wedding ceremony was held at Christ Embassy, Oregun, Ikeja, following the traditional marriage on 26th August at Iyana Iba Lagos. The couple got married in 2011 and they both have 3 children Purity Ozioma Okojie (December 2012), Henry Okojie (October 15, 2014) and Angel Okojie (December 11, 2016).
Mercy Johnson’s lifestyle can be described as reserved but jovial, yet sophisticated and classy. As stylish as she is, when it comes to jewelry and accessories, MJ revealed she will never wear nose rings, adding that wristwatches will always be among her graceful adornment.
