The 10 Best Car Insurance Providers in America
10. American Family
Kicking off the list of the best car insurance providers in America is American Family.
Originally, American Family started out by only providing insurance for farmers.
They then moved on to insure non-farmers in 1930 and grew the business to offer a range of policies in a number of different areas, including car insurance.
As of today, American Family is one of the biggest car insurance providers in the United States and has a good reputable reputation.
In one year, they paid out roughly $3 billion in claims, ranging from Auto, home and umbrella claims.
Overall, if you’re considering getting a car insurance policy with them, then they offer decent rates and have a solid reputation.
9. Liberty Mutual
Another top insurance provider in America is Liberty Mutual.
Its reputation has been built over 100 years; during which the company has managed to acquire 17 operations around the world. However, the auto insurance side is still focused on the U.S and according to their annual report, 36% of their net written premium was from auto insurance.
Unfortunately, their customer service and claims satisfaction process have been ranked below average by their own customers. So you might want to check this out before taking out a policy with them.
Also, the rate you’re offered will depend a lot on your address. It’s likely that you’ll be offered a much less competitive rate if you’re situated as what they deem to be a less desirable area.
Make a note of that when comparing rates.
Contrary to Liberty Mutuals customer satisfaction, Travelers customers speak very highly of the company’s ways of dealing with their claims and customer service.
The company is by far one of the oldest insurance companies in the world that are still operating. It was founded more than 160 years ago and now has over 30,000 employees worldwide.
Overall, Travelers could be a good choice for auto insurance in America as they generally receive little complaints and keep their existing customers happy.
However, the one complaint that some customers have; is that their rates are a little on the high side, and they’d like to see the company offer more competitive rates.
Check them out for yourself and see what you think.
The next insurance company on our list is Nationwide.
These guys are a fortune 100 company and have paid out over $18 billion in claims since 2017. They also do business in other areas like financial services, commercial lines and personal lines, across all 50 U.S states.
It seems like their customers are happy enough with the customer service they receive; however, the perceived value of their auto insurance is not as good as their customers would like. Therefore, their customers find it difficult to recommend their car insurance policies to friends or family members.
They’re also seen as not being the most affordable provider, as their customers have reported they offer pretty standard coverage and discounts when compared to other large insurance companies.
In sixth place we have another major car insurance provider that started out offering coverage for rural farmers vehicles.
Since its humble beginnings, Farmers has moved on to become a company that offers some of the most products in the market place.
Among its arsenal of products, is basic auto insurance, pet insurance and investment products.
Farmers employees approximately 21,000 people and underwrites roughly 19 million policies over 50 states in America.
Farmers customers seem to be of a similar mind to Nationwide; where they’re happy with the support, customer service and ease of filing a claim, but not too happy with the value of the policy.
Overall, because their rates aren’t very competitive, they’re more than likely missing out on a lot of potential customers.
Allstate was established in 1931 and currently employs over 79,000 people.
It’s the second-largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company in America.
According to its customers, they don’t feel like they’re in the best of hands and would like to see better value and customer service in the future.
It also has pretty high rates compared to other large insurance companies in America and it’s general average claims satisfaction isn’t too great either.
With that said, they’re most known for providing customers with good discounts. So, do your research before you choose to use them as your car insurance provider and you might be able to get a good discount.
Progressive is the third biggest insurance company in America, established in 1937, and offers its customer the option to purchase their auto insurance either online, directly or over the phone.
To date, the company has over 400 offices, employs around 33,000 people and is a public traded company.
Customer reports indicate that their customers seem to be happy with how easy it is to submit a claim but less impressed with customer service, communication and value.
They do offer highly competitive rates to drivers that have been involved in a previous accident, which is good; however, because of the satisfaction levels reported by the majority of customers, you might want to shop around a bit more before taking out a policy.
3. State Farm
State Farm is owned by its policyholders and is therefore considered to be a mutual insurance company.
As of 2019, State Farm possesses approximately 18% of the total available car insurance market share and is the biggest auto insurance company in America.
They employ roughly 70,000 people and have 19,000 independent agents working for them.
State Farms rates are, on average lower than a lot of the competition, and their customers are happy with the value they’re getting and are willing to renew their policies.
They’re also very good at creating a personalized insurance experience; so if you’re looking for more of a personal touch, then State Farm could be perfect.
In second place on our list of the best car insurance providers in America, we have GEICO.
In the beginning stages of the company, GEICOs customers were U.S. government employees and military personnel.
However, GEICO now underwrites more than 16 million auto policies that insure over 24 million vehicles across the U.S.
They’re based across nine regional offices, three service centres and three claims centres, and employ roughly 36,000 people.
GEICOs customers seem to be generally happy overall, due to the companies low rates, easy purchasing experience and availability across the country.
They’re certainly one of the best car insurance companies in America and the second-best on our list.
USAA takes the top spot on our list as the best car insurance provider in America.
Aside from positive feedback about the great value, customer support, ease of filing a claim and frequent updates on the status of a claim; USAA has received a lot of praise in a number of other areas from its customers.
The company was founded in 1922 by 25 army officers that wanted to insure each other vehicles. It’s now transformed into a Fortune 500 diversified group of companies that are headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.
We really couldn’t find any major faults with this company, apart from its restricted membership.
USAA products are only available to veterans, military personnel or their immediate family, which means everyone is unable to benefit from their offers and policies.
However, if you do match their criteria then head over to their website and see what deal you’re able to get.
